Pedaling while seated makes you waste less energy but to enjoy all aspects of cycling you should consider that pedaling standing has certain advantages:
- You can rest and change position
- Work more muscles because you do more strength
If you spend much time in the seat it is probably that some parts of your body feel numb, even perineal area, so if you change your position and pedal out of the seat, your muscles rest and blood will circulate better in this area. You may spend more energy and oxygen but instead your muscles relax and give thanks will relax.
The best thing for your health is to get up every few minutes and alternate pedaling standing and sitting.
